For the first time in 14 years the French Teachers’ Association of Ireland (FTA) is returning to Cork for its National Conference which this year will be on the theme of using media in the classroom.

The 2 day conference in UCC on October 6th/7th will be opened by the Swiss Ambassador to Ireland, Mme. Marie-Claude Meylan, and will include speakers from national and international agencies promoting the use of media in the French classroom. Supported by the French Embassy in Ireland, the International Federation of French Teachers, the Alliance Française and many other bodies this Conference promises to be a very enjoyable and profitable experience for French teachers in Ireland. EPSO Competition – AD5 Graduate Administrator

Summer scholarships for French teachers 2017

Closing date for applications: April 09th, 2017

In the interests of supporting continuing professional development for post-primary teachers of French, the Department of Education and Skills and the Cultural Service of the French Embassy offer this year again a number of scholarships to attend an in-service course during the summer.

 The in-service courses offered have enabled teachers to up-skill themselves both linguistically and pedagogically in addition to affording them opportunities to engage with other Irish teachers of French.

 There are 2 types of scholarships offered:

  • Scholarships for a 2 weeks in-service course in France (July or August)
  • Scholarship for a 5 days in-service course at The Alliance Française de Dublin (June 26th – 30th)

Online ICT and MFL course

The ICT in the Post Primary MFL Classroom online course from PDST Technology in Education is available for self-enrolment via This e-tutor supported five hour course provides an overview of a range of technologies and how they can be used to support post primary teaching, learning and assessment of modern foreign languages. Developed by PDST Technology in Education in collaboration with the Post Primary Languages Initiative (PPLI). The course starts on January 30th, 2017.

To self-enrol, teachers use their Scoilnet account (get your account here). With that Scoilnet account username and password, login to and go to the link for PDST Technology in Education courses….ENROL HERE. (You will find enrolment FAQs and a video guide on if experiencing difficulty.) Places are limited. Enrolment closes once all places are taken.

« Bonjour bonheur ! » Short Film Competition deadline

There is still time to make a quick 5 minute film with your students and submit it on/before Friday January 27th 2017 to:

  • Joe Walsh, French Dept, CBS, Naas, Co.Kildare.

Entries sent on or before that day will be accepted. These will then be judged by a jury external to the FTA so that members of regional branches and of the National Executive may enter teams from their schools.
